- Feminist reading of Hermione’s character in Harry Potter: How do the character portrayal of Hermione and other female characters support feminist discourse?
Besides being extremely intelligent, Hermione wasn't afraid to kick ass. And she did, multiple times throughout the books and movies.Even though Hermione was a stickler for the rules, she wasn't afraid to take risks for the greater good. Like remember when she blackmailed Rita Skeeter? Or helped organised Dumbledore's Army? Or when she punched that smug look off Malfoy's face? Iconic. Hermione was without a doubt one of Harry’s biggest and strongest supporters. She believed in him, even when others didn’t, and sacrificed so much of her personal life to help him succeed in his quest. Alongside that, she somehow managed to find the time to start S.P.E.W. (the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) after seeing the unfair working conditions of house elves.
Unlike Hermione’s logical personality, Luna’s wisdom came from her creativity and intuition. She thought outside of the box and didn't feel the need to conform to everyone's idea of normal.A good example was when Luna addressed Dobby as "sir" while she was trying to escape from Malfoy Manor. While this baffled Dobby, who was a lowly house elf, Luna saw nothing wrong with it. To her, everyone was equal regardless of their class or occupation.
Ginny:-
As displayed by her impressive bat-bogey hexes, Ginny was an extraordinary witch. She owned her power, talent and strength, and never let being a "girl" get in the way of her dreams. Case in point: her Quidditch skills.
This conversation between Harry and Ginny during Order of the Phoenix is a perfect example. After speaking to her, Harry realised he wasn't the only one that had been through hell and back with Voldemort.
"I didn't want anyone to talk to me," said Harry, who was feeling more and more nettled.
"Well, that was a bit stupid of you," said Ginny angrily, "seeing as you don't know anyone but me who's been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I can tell you how it feels."
Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he wheeled around.
"I forgot," he said.
"Lucky you," said Ginny coolly.
