Orientalism by Edward Said

Hello Reader !

Welcome to my blog.

Here I want to Share my view on following questions. So let's start our journey of learning together...

Here is task given by Prof. Dilip Barad sir,

  • What is Orientalism ?:-

"Orientalism” is a way of seeing that imagines, emphasizes, exaggerates and distorts differences of Arab peoples and cultures as compared to that of Europe and the U.S. It often involves seeing Arab culture as exotic, backward, uncivilized, and at times dangerous. Edward W. Said, in his groundbreaking book, Orientalism, defined it as the acceptance in the West of “the basic distinction between East and West as the starting point for elaborate theories, epics, novels, social descriptions, and political accounts concerning the Orient, its people, customs, ‘mind,’ destiny and so on.”

  • Edward Said:-

'Edward Said' was born in 1, November, 1935 and died in 25 September,2003 at New York. He was professor in Columbia University. He was well known for Occidental-ism and Orientalism. Here this task given by Prof. Dilip Barad Sir. Into this task given various concepts which about Edward Said's interview on Orientalism.

When I have listened that interview of Edward, I notify definition of Orientalism. If I want to say according to views of Edward's  that It's not only mentioned about sheer study of middle east but also there are used for the further knowledge. May be I have to put here example of Post; colonial studies, history and anthropology...etc.

  • Representation of real history:-

History as a branch of knowledge begins with a distinct handicap. While there may be serious disputes about whether theology, for example, has any object, there is a broad consensus that the object of history does not exist at all. In view of this fact it is perhaps no wonder that skepticism about history’s claims to knowledge has always been widespread.

Here When I read about him and his introduction during that time may be he didn't like representation of Arab because generally Arabs represented all the kind of things with rigidly. They didn't chose proper way of speak to history. Moreover I put here example, war of Arab-Israeli in 1973. Here he described his own point. He also mentioned that How out country's people doing wrong things about his motherland. He explained through references of 'Jerome Ang.

  • Foreseeable:-

When We think as a predictable way so we get that how they capable of being known before happening in country's middle east. They all have originated  their mindset  through connected east as a violence country.

  • Different Policy & Society:-

Here I notify that Edward Said explained vivid objectives & policy of America, Europe and France country in front of their Community. Here I put one example for better understanding that French has policy of Imperialism which different rather than America and Europe. He added that French didn't gave rights of citizens like as Spaniard invaded the new world but it's opposite side Nepolian invaded Egypt for the survey of Egypt while Europe created new world looking through  policy.

  • Polyphonic way :-

We know that each and every things behind two side something good or bad but we can't judged through particular way that that is good or bad. It's depended on our thoughts and mentality. I think that When we tried to justified anything at that time We put ourselves there place then we will decide what is good or bad ? But mostly people forgot those things when they involved that types of condition. As  I say  Polyphonic view that red color is not only symbol of dangerous but it's symbol love. So at the end of the discussion I want to say that everybody has own thinking power, I can't say one shouldn't think as bsame as other think.

Thank you...
